Training to Teach

PGCE
  • Patchway regularly takes one year PGCE trainees from local universities, including UWE and Bristol.
  • Trainees come on both short and longer term placements.
  • Most curriculum areas have at least one PGCE trainee attached to them at some point during the academic year.
  • Each trainee has a trained subject mentor, who is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day programme within the curriculum area
  • We also have a trained and experienced Senior Professional Tutor, who is responsible for coordinating and assuring the consistency of the provision for all PGCE trainees.
GTP
  • Patchway also accepts a few colleagues each year who wish to train within the college through the Graduate Teacher Programme.
  • Competition for these places is fierce and expressions of interest are needed by February in order to be considered at all for the following September.
  • We can usually only consider applications for places in shortage subjects that carry a government funded salary grant
  • We work closely with Bath University and the University of Gloucestershire in the delivery of GTP
