The department follows the Edexcel 2010 ICT GCSE. This is a single award GCSE and is made up of an exam (40%) and a Controlled assessment (60%).
Theory
The course has been selected because it gives students chance to look at the contemporary issues of ICT. This includes issues and technology such as
Mobile phones and the development of the smart phone
various gaming consoles and how they are used in contemporary society
home networks . Using wireless routers and printers, the methods used to connect to the internet and the devises that use WiFi and how to keep home networks secure.
Home working
Using the Internet for shopping and travelling
Modern communication methods including blogging, web design and social networking
Controlled assessment
Each year the exam board issues a Controlled Assessment Brief (CAB). The purpose of the CAB is to provide students with a scenario to work from and a number of tasks which need to be completed independently under controlled conditions. Many lessons are spent preparing for completing tasks which involved drawing on many skills including;
Web design
Using Flash design software
Developing interactive multi media presentations
Modelling scenarios to produce specific outcomes
