Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11,
students take two GCSEs leading to qualifications in English Language and
English Literature. During the two years, students complete a folder of
controlled assessment which contributes to their final GCSE grades. English
controlled assessment tasks include writing in two different forms, a response
to a Shakespeare play and an analysis of a novel from a different culture.
Students also complete a number of speaking and listening tasks. The English Language
controlled assessment element amounts to 40% of the overall mark. Two exams,
assessing students’ reading and writing skills, make up the further 60%.
Alongside GCSE English, GCSE Media Studies is offered
as an option subject. In Media Studies, students engage in the analysis and
production of a range of media forms, including magazines, advertising and
television.
