About Pupil Premium funding
The Government introduced Pupil Premium funding to address underlying national inequalities for children eligible for free school meals, children who are looked after and adopted and the children of service families.
The Pupil Premium seeks to reduce gaps in attainment and achievement; to enable more students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access Further and Higher Education; and address the emotional and social well-being of these students.
At Patchway Community School we are committed to helping all students achieve their potential by making excellent progress in their academic studies and developing them as young adults, regardless of their background. The Pupil Premium is a fund which comes directly into school from the government to help us narrow the gap between disadvantaged students and their peers and to help us achieve our aim.
Main barriers to educational achievement that disadvantaged students face at Patchway Community School:
- Lack of self-belief in their ability to make strong academic progress
- Attendance which does not meet the national threshold of 95%
- Social and emotional well-being deficits
- Limited aspiration to access further and higher education pathways which open a range of professions and careers
Our aspirations to combat these barriers:
Disadvantaged students make better progress than non-disadvantaged students nationally so that they match or exceed the attainment levels of non-disadvantaged students.
Disadvantaged students’ attendance will be at least 96%.
Disadvantaged students are nurtured and supported so they can focus on their education.
Disadvantaged students benefit from a comprehensive careers programme and are equipped with outcomes which give them the widest choice of options when they leave us at 18.

Each child at Patchway community College who is eligible to receive this funding are allocated funding in the following sums:
